UBC's Okanagan campus, 8th Annual Learning Conference theme "Scholarly Approaches: Evidence-Informed Teaching and Learning" invites educators to share their research and practice in sessions that will explore the connection between research and learning.

The conference will open with a keynote by Dr. Geoff Norman, Canada Research Chair in Cognitive Dimensions of Clinical Expertise, Assistant Dean of The Programme for Educational Research and Development at McMaster University.

The second day will open with  a keynote address by Dr. Christopher Knapper, entitled “Teaching for Deeper and Lifelong Learning”. Dr. Knapper is founding president of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and Professor Emeritus at Queen’s University.

Educators are invited to share their expertise and experience with the connection between research and learning. The conference intends to explore questions such as how can research inform my teaching and hence enhance the student learning experience; how do students learn best; what does the research say about approaches to teaching and learning that are most effective?

All interested individuals or groups are invited to submit proposals for 50 minute sessions. Each session is expected to have an interactive component. Formats may include discussions, roundtables, and presentations.

Note:Kelowna, British Columbia is a resort destination offering golf, wineries and beautiful hiking trails. The Annual Spring Wine Festival will occur immediately following the conference,  May 4-11, 2012.
